Tips for a successful crumble

Making a crumble is very easy: you only need 3 ingredients (flour, butter and sugar) and it’s done. In this recipe, I also added almond powder. In all cases, the technique remains the same. Here are some tips, in order to get your cumble right the first time.

Choose well the dish in which you will cook your crumble

It is important to choose a relatively high dish to obtain a fairly thick crumble. Before cooking, your dish must be well filled because after cooking, the fruit melts and the crumble loses its height.

Note that you can also prepare your crumble in individual moulds.

Don’t hesitate to add lots of fruit!

As explained above, fruit melts during cooking: it loses at least half its volume depending on the type of fruit.

So don’t be afraid to add a lot, even if you feel like it will be too much. Plus, fruit is good for your health!

Prepare your cumble by hand

The traditional crumble is nothing more than a mixture of flour, butter or other fat and sugar. However, the art of the crumble is its consistency: it must be crunchy on the outside and still melt in your mouth when you bite into it.

The best way to do this is to use your hands when mixing the ingredients. Try to achieve a smooth consistency while forming irregularly sized pieces of crumble. Personally, I love leaving big chunks of crumble!
