Spicy Air Fryer Roasted Potatoes  on a plate

Air-fried potatoes are a healthier alternative to traditional French fries or deep-fried potatoes, as much less oil is used. Compared with baking, potatoes are crisper and don’t blacken as quickly.

For a full meal, you can serve these spicy potatoes with whipped feta and fresh herbs on top. Take a look at my recipe for roasted potatoes with whipped feta.

Ingredients and alternatives

Basically, the main ingredients to make air fried potatoes are potatoes, oil and spices. Here are the spices I use and some tips for alternatives.

Ingredients to make Spicy Air Fryer Roasted Potatoes
  • Potatoes: I like to use baby potatoes as they are easy to prepare and don’t need to be peeled. Any firm potatoes such as russet potatoes, red potatoes, or yukon gold potatoes will work.  If you use large potatoes cut into small wedges.
  • Olive Oil: Olive oil is my favorite oil for roasting vegetables in the air fryer. However, you can use another neutral oil such as sunflower oil, canola oil or avocado oil.
  • Smoked Paprika: Smoked paprika adds a rich, smoky flavor to the potatoes. If you prefer a milder taste, you can use regular paprika instead.
  • Chili Powder: Adding chili powder or cayenne pepper provides a spicy kick to the potatoes. Adjust the amount according to your heat preference. Cayenne pepper work well for this recipe.
  • Garlic Powder: Garlic powder infuses the potatoes with savory garlic flavor without the hassle of mincing fresh garlic cloves.
  • Ground Coriander: Ground coriander adds a subtle citrusy and floral note to the potatoes, enhancing their overall flavor profile.
  • Salt and Black Pepper: Salt and black pepper are essential for seasoning the potatoes and bringing out their natural flavors.

You will find the exact quantities in the recipe card.

Start to cut the potatoes in same size. As I use baby potatoes, I just cut them in two but you can cut the potatoes in wedges or cubes too.

Raw potatoes with spices in a mixing bowl

I then place them in a and develop your mixing bowl, add a little oil and my blend of spices: I like to use smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, ground coriander, salt and pepper.

You can be creative and make you own spice mix with other spices such as cumin, fennel, harissa. red pepper flakes or even add some parmesan cheese.

After mixing everything well, I arranged the seasoned potatoes in a single layer in my air fryer basket.

I bake them for 20-25 minutes at 390°F (200°C) until golden brown, and I shake the basket after 15 minutes to make sure they get crispy on each side. The cooking time will depend on the size of your potatoes.

Géraldine’s tips

Here are three essential tips, when roasting potatoes in the air fryer.

  • Preheat: Preheat the air fryer for 3-5 minutes before cooking to ensure crispiness.
  • Even Coating: Coat the potatoes evenly with oil and spices for maximum crispiness. I recommend using a large bowl for that.
  • Avoid Crowding: Arrange potatoes in a single layer in the basket to prevent steaming. Roast in two or three batches if necessary.
