Here is my basic recipe for my Christmas Chocolate Cookies! It is very simple and umissable. This is a great recipe idea if you want to bake these little cookies with children.

The tradition of Christmas cookies

Christmas cookies are originally a tradition in Germanic countries. In France, you can find them in Alsace as well. In the meantime, many countries have followed this tradition. How not to resist these delicious little treats during the Christmas season!

Christmas cookies aren’t limited to gingerbread or Lebkuchen in German, there are many other recipes. This year I prepare two other Christmas cookie recipes to accompany this Chocolate Christmas Cookies recipe:

For about 30 cookies you need the following ingredients:

Ingredients

For the cookies

  • 200 g flour
  • 85 g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 125 g butter

For decoration

  • 75 g dark chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • Grated coconut
  • Chopped hazelnuts

Preparation

Step 1: The cookie dough

Start by pouring the flour and sugar into a bowl.

Add the egg and butter. Mix everything using a kitchen machine if possible. Then form a ball with the dough. Place the dough in the refrigirator for 45 min till 1 hour.

Step 2: Shape the cookies

Once the dough has cooled, place it on a clean surface. Work the dough with your hands. Then roll out the dough until it is about 0.5 cm thick.

Using a small baking circle or a glass, form round cookies.

Step 3: Baking

Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.

Bake the biscuits for 12 minutes at 175 °C (fan oven).

Step 4: Decoration

Meanwhile, melt the chocolate and coconut oil. You can melt it in the microwave on low power or in a water bath.

Once out of the oven, dip half of the cookies in the chocolate. Drop the excess and place the cookies on baking paper. Leave them as they are or add grated coconut or pieces of hazelnuts.

Leave to cool for 1 hour in the refrigerator or outside if it is cold enough!

How to vary this chocolate Christmas cookies recipe

This chocolate Christmas cookie recipe is my basic recipe. You can then play and vary their shapes and taste! Here are some ideas:

  • Vary the shape of the cookies: stars, Christmas tree, little man, heartetc.
  • Add orange blossom in the dough
  • Add orange or lemon zest
  • Replace dark chocolate with milk chocolate or white chocolate
  • You can try a mixture of white chocolate and pistachios!

If you liked this recipe, then you will surely like these other recipes too!
