Homemade Burger Buns
There is nothing like a homemade burger! It took me a long time to find the perfect recipe for Homemade Burger Buns and now that I’ve found it I share it on my blog. Below are some tips to never miss them!
Recipe of Homemade Burger Buns
You know what I like best when I make homemade burger buns? I can adapt the size of the bun according to my desires. So with the following recipe you can realize either:
- 4 large burger buns (for 4 people as a main course)
- 6 medium burger buns (for a lighter meal)
Ingredients
For the dough
- 300g flour
- 45g butter
- 120 ml hot water
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 3.5g dry yeast
- 15g sugar
- 6g salt
- 1 egg
For decoration
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons milk
- sesame seeds
Preparation
Step 1: Yeast
Start by mixing yeast, sugar, milk and hot water. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
The water should not be too hot otherwise it will “kill” the yeast. The ideal is to reach a temperature between 25 and 35°C. When I have a doubt, I use a small thermometer, like the one used to check the temperature of the wine, to measure the temperature of the water before adding the yeast.
Step 2: The dough
Pour the flour and salt into a bowl. Make a hole in the centre of the flour and add the water and yeast mixture, egg and butter.
Mix well. Then knead the dough for 5 minutes until it is smooth. Let the dough rise for at least 1 hour in a warm place.
Step 3: Buns
Once the dough is rested, cut the dough into 4 or 6 equal-sized pieces (90 g for small buns or 110 g for large buns).
Form a ball with each piece. Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Let the buns rise for another 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Step 4: Decoration
Before baking the buns, beat the egg yolk and milk with a fork. Apply the mixture over the buns. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Step 5: Cooking
Bake the buns in the oven at 175°C for 17 to 20 minutes. Let them cool before cutting in half.
