My tips for making homemade flavored butter

Making flavored butter is actually super simple! Once you know the technique, you can vary the taste at will.

The first step is to let the butter soften at room temperature. To do this, take it out of the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. If it is too hard, you will not be able to incorporate the ingredients.

Then, all you have to do is gather the ingredients that will give flavour to your butter (herbs, spices, condiments). I suggest you cut or chop ingredients like herbs or other hard ingredients as finely as possible.

Finally, you just have to incorporate them into the soft butter. To do this, I simply use a fork.

Be careful, some recipes for flavored butter like my recipe for Tomato and Chilli Butter require you to fry the ingredients for a few minutes before adding them to the butter. This allows the flavors to blend well and for example the garlic in this recipe to be more digestible.

How long does homemade flavored butter last?

This lemon butter can be kept for 2 months in the refrigerator. You can also freeze flavored butters and keep them for at least one year.

My tip: place the butter in ice cube trays to make individual portions.

How to package homemade flavored butter?

To preserve the flavored butter, it is recommended to wrap it before putting it in the refrigerator. Butter is a fat that tends to absorb odors. But you don’t want butter that tastes like cheese!

My technique for wraping this homemade flavored butter is to wrap it in parchment paper. Find my technique in pictures :

Lemon Butter

Of the three recipes, the lemon butter is the simplest but also my favorite!

Lemon butter is ideal with toast or for sautéing vegetables such as green asparagus, spinach or for seasoning white fish.

It is certainly the most classic flavored butter! But in my recipe for Garlic and Herb Butter, you’ll see that I add a few secret ingredients like lemon to give this butter a fresh touch and make it more flavorful.

This Garlic and Herb Butter can then be served simply with toasted bread or to brown vegetables such as zucchini, mushrooms or simply potatoes in a pan.
